(Looking down the waterfall and log flume)

You can find the rushing water of Auttiköngäs waterfall and old log flume one-hour’s drive away from Rovaniemi on Road 81 heading toward Posio. The drive travels along the Kemijoki River and offers some scenic landscapes, also passing over the Vanttauskoski hydroelectric plant and dam. There’s a 3.5 kilometer Auttiköngäs nature trail (circle trail) at that runs across the waterfalls through an undisturbed old-growth forest and up to a hilltop which over looks the surrounding Taiga forests. There is a café next to the parking area for the trail as well as a small-scale exhibition about log floating, and even an open wilderness hut for public use.

The turn for Auttiköngäs is well marked off of Road 81 and is easy to spot if driving from either Rovaniemi or Posio
